“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful… And whatever he does shall prosper.” Psalm 1:1, 3b
Every time I read the above passage, several people I know come to mind.
People sometimes ask how I know the Bible is still applicable today. While I truly believe all Scripture is true, verse like the one above drive it home to me.
I can think of several people I have known for years, who conduct their business and personal behavior in accordance with God’s law.
It’s so inspiring to me, a true blessing, to see this verse come to life.
I know a businessman who has refused client entertainment because it would dishonor his wife.
I know a church leader who learned of corruption and refused to ignore it.
I know a successful businessman who, when he received a large bonus, wrote personal checks to people who worked for him, enabling his success.
I know a dear housewife who knew many damaging details surrounding someone’s personal life and she never breathed a word.
I know another businessman who knew many incriminating details about several business leaders, but never gossiped.
I know a prominent politician who took hours out of a busy schedule to visit an elderly party leader who had suffered a recent hospital stay.
All these people I know are extremely blessed. I wouldn’t say that their lives have been unbelievably easy, (they haven’t!) but I do see a multitude of blessings in each, and reflect again, that God does reward obedience.
Reflections:
1) How do you act when no one is watching?
2) How has your life prospered from choosing obedience?
Thanks for reading! Please return by Wednesday, July 10, for the next post.
