Large crocodile tears tumbled down her two-year-old cheeks. Her wailing might have broken a noise ordinance. “Daddy! Only Daddy fix it!”
I consoled our daughter for several minutes before she sufficiently calmed enough to listen. “Honey, I can fix it.” I rubbed her back in assurance.
“No, Daddy fix it!”
Well, she knew Daddy would fix it and fix it right. And while Mommy shouldn’t even pretend to have any mechanical or technical know-how I was fairly certain the “brokenness” of her toy was simply needing fresh batteries. (And this mom happens to be a pro at changing batteries!)
But this girl knew her Daddy could handle anything she’d carry to him. Just like our heavenly Father, God, can handle anything we carry to Him.
Philippians 4:6 tell us in every situation we are to carry our burdens to Him. We are commanded to talk to Him about anything. To ask Him for anything. We can joyfully, trustfully and thankfully with relief, carry anything to Him knowing He’ll handle it.
Just like our daughter knew Daddy would fix her ‘broken’ toy. The moment he arrived home from work she met him at the door with her toy in hand. Without even removing his coat, he promptly inspected it, crossed into the kitchen and retrieved new batteries for it. In less than a minute, loud electronic sounds filled the room as she smiled joyfully. Daddy came through again. She trusted him. She wouldn’t dare take that toy to anyone else.
I wish my crisis response was also adamantly carrying both large and small problems to God. What a gift to master! He promises we can and even should bring everything to Him. He wants us to. He commands us to. Will you join me in asking Him to remind us of that promises just when we need it?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your promises to handle all my crises, large and small. Thank You for wanting to care for all life’s details so I can live stress-free. Please help me to trustingly bring my concerns to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
