I sat in the interview, wondering how I had ended up here. This industry was never on my radar. This position was never in my plan. Yet, I really believe God intentionally open all those doors.
The interviewer continued. “And you would need to go back to school, completing twenty-four credits to get your professional license…”
“God, seriously? I’m in a season of life where I’m finished with getting degrees.”
Yet, deep down I knew.
Although this was never in my plan, I was fairly certain it was His.
I bet you’re been there, too. Maybe, you’re there right now. What do you do when something is suddenly before you, and even though it might seem absolutely crazy, you are rather certain this is the Lord’s leading?
Even when you feel God’s hand, it is downright scary taking that step (or rather leap) of faith, isn’t it?
Rather than let fear rule, we can turn to God’s promises to bolster our spirits, our minds and yes, even our confidence. Isaiah 41:10 reads, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God promises to strengthen us. Even when we’re sure we have nothing left in us. He will not only help us, He promises to sustain. We just need to stay there, allowing Him to prop us up, propelling us into action.
He also reminds us in Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave or forsake you.”
Even when we feel weak, He calls us to be strong. Even when we feel afraid, He calls us to take courage. And when we just … can’t? He gently nudges us, citing He will supply all our needs. (Philippians 4:19).
Even though our challenges are often solitary, we are truly never alone. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 28:20, “I will always be with you.” And He is.
Eight years later, I can affirm it was His plan to take a crazy turn in my career path. I did go back to school, and insanely, I didn’t stop at just twenty-four credits, but finished the Master’s degree. At the time I couldn’t imagine what He was doing with this change, but years later, I marvel at what He has done. Things I never could have authored, even on my best days.
For those contemplating a huge leap of faith, pray about it. Let me know, and I will join in prayer for guidance and direction.
If you feel Him leading, jump in with both feet. God is able to supersede our expectations. Who knows, years from now, you too, may be marveling at the abundance of blessings that poured forth from a leap of faith.
Prayer: Dear Lord, it can be so hard to switch gears. What if I’m wrong or I misunderstood? Please guide me. Grow my faith. Help me hear Your voice and learn to jump confidently with both feet into Your will. Thank You for Your great love for me and plans for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
