“My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you.” Isaiah 26: 8a
Driving through the neighborhood this week, I was surprised by how many houses are advertised, “For Rent.” Having trouble selling, maybe the home owners have simply decided to rent their space out.
How often do our souls post a ‘For Rent’ sign? Is it easier to simply rent our soul space instead of settling down and completely buying in? Do we think completely following Christ would just cost too much, so we rent our souls to a temporary, attractive tenant?
Have you ever felt that insatiable longing for something but didn’t know what? You long to feel whole, complete. You might ‘visit’ several open houses of activities or things vying for your most precious asset: your soul.
Almost anything can become a god: hobbies, career path, education, or even a significant other. Yet those false gods never offer permanent closure to that longing. The search for something more persists.
It’s only when we completely ‘buy into’ the truth of who Christ is, and just how much He loves us that we find the secret of “Learning to be content no matter what the circumstances.” Philippians 4:12
When we offer our hearts and souls to Christ, the longings of our souls will be satisfied. Then the sign on our souls will read ‘sold.’
Reflections:
1) What is your soul searching for? Have you found it?
2) What things have been false gods to you in the past?
3) How can you make sure they stay in the past?
4) How do you define the truth of who Christ is?
5) How do you define Christ’s love for you?
Thanks for reading! Please return by next Monday, September 30, for the next post.
