This autumn I undertook a mountain of work. My day job intensified. My next degree is almost completed. My family needs me just a much as ever.
There seems there is just never enough time! I bet you know the feeling!
Yet I prioritize. Not perfectly of course. I have my moments, just like anyone else.
But I have found some things are worth sacrificing sleep for.
Not work.
Not cleaning.
Not even organizing.
I get up before the sun so I can have my quiet time with God. I need to read His word, communicate with Him, draw nearer to Him.
When do you draw closer to God?
James 4:8 is a promise. If we work at drawing closer to God, He will come closer to us.
If you’re like me, I tend to draw closer to God during the challenges of this life. The times I see as the greatest spiritual breakthroughs are often the times of toughest trials. But I’m not convinced that is the only way to draw closer to Him.
How do we focus on Him when things are going well?
Do we humbly acknowledge the gift of a quiet time? Do we notice the blessings in a new day and praise God for it? Do we converse with Him about the seemingly simple presents, acknowledging them and thanking Him for them?
When our lives are going well, do we ask for an opportunity to be a blessing to someone else? Do we stop and consider the idea that in contentment, we are greatly blessed?
I have no idea what your day looks like: littered with trials or abundant in blessings. Do you have all the time in the world, or simply fight to find a minute? Either way, God can and will use it all to draw you and I closer to Himself. If, we choose to allow Him.
Maybe, like me, you have done life long enough to know, no matter how little time there seems to be, I just can’t do it today alone. I need His guidance and wisdom, His patience and peace, His humor and humility to graciously get through the day.
Won’t you join me in praying for those things?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for promising to draw me closer to You. You love me abundantly, even when I make poor choices with my time. You welcome me back with arms wide open when I realize I missed You. Thank You for organizing my day. That no matter what I may have planned, or how overwhelmed I may feel, You have gone before me and You will make sure what needs to get done, gets done.
Thank You for Your constant loving care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
