Hurrying out the door, I loaded my children and our puppy into the car. We had a booked schedule that day and it all started with dropping the puppy off first. Turning on the radio, we all happily sang and zipped through town. Unfortunately, when listening to Christian music I sometimes lose track of my speed, but the colored lights in my rear-view mirror kindly reminded me.
My heart sank. Now we were delayed yet again. Not to mention the fines. Or the possible points on my license. I was thoroughly disgusted with myself.
Why are there never enough hours in the day?
I Peter 5:7 reminds me Jesus cares about all the “little” things. Those pesky problems in everyday life that truly are not life-altering, but cause me concern. “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (NIV) the Scripture reads.
All. Every one. It does not read, “the big ones” or “the things which could change your life,” but “all.”
Does that mean that Jesus cares about every little thing? It sure does. He cares about the concerns on my heart. He cares about the matters on my mind. He cares about the problems which cause me pause.
He even cares about my mental state as I process the ridiculous scenarios I find myself living.
While my knee-jerk reaction might be to carry big burdens like serious illness, major life-changes, and looming life decisions to Him, I should also carry the small stuff to Him as well. What should I do about this detail? Or, please give me the words to encourage this person in a small way. Or even, what should I make for an easy dinner so we have more family time?
After my “visit” with the friendly policeman, we turned down the music and went on our not-so-merry way. My daughters laughed as they taunted me about what they would tell Daddy, and soon I joined them in the humor of the moment.
Like me, do you ever feel some burdens are too small to “bother” God with? Do you sometimes feel, “I got myself into it, I need to get myself out?” Do you struggle against the idea to carry all your burdens to Him?
Maybe like me, you find it amazing that He cares about all the things which threaten our peace. And even more amazing, He cares about all the scenarios we experience today, even the ones we unintentionally find ourselves in. Will you join me in carrying all burdens to Him?
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You that You do indeed care about all things, even those “little” things that burden my heart. Please remind me that You do want to hear about all those concerns. Thank You for caring so much about me! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
