The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.” Psalm 91: 14-16
God promises to protect those who know Him, who love Him. I knew that. But boy oh boy, I felt the need for some white knight in shining armor to swoop in and rescue me. I was a teenager, living abroad. I was alone. I was scared. I had to learn a foreign language. I had to navigate unfamiliar routes, and an unfamiliar lifestyle. I was in the unknown. And, I wasn’t sure how long the unknown would last.
Psalm 91 would have provided such comfort, had I read it back then.
God promises to answer when we cry out.
He promises to be with us in trouble.
In, Hebrews 13:5, He promises to never leave nor forsake us.
He promises to deliver and honor us.
He promises to show us His salvation for us.
All this because He loves us. And we love Him.
These promises do not guarantee life will be easy, or free from troubling challenges. No matter how long or little you have walked in faith, I bet you’ve already experienced this!
But, He promises to carry us through the trouble, to wait it out with us, and to honor our faith when it’s over. He also promises to share salvation with us. And that salvation is for all eternity, underscoring how temporary our trials truly are.
Even when it feels unfamiliar, that life is upside-down. That you are navigating the unknown, speaking a language foreign to you.
I don’t know all you are enduring today, but I bet these feelings resonate. Please know you are not alone. Please pray for each other, and reach out here for prayer as well. I am holding all of you in prayer.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we don’t always understand. Life here can be hard. Really hard. To the point where we might be tempted to give up, or give in. Remind us to cling to the promises of Psalm 91, to call on You. Reassure us with Your love, and the promise in Romans 8:28 that You do redeem everything. Thank You that You will never leave us nor forsake us. Thank You that we can cling to You. Growth our faith as we journey together through these trials, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
