I stood watching the reflection of the drifting puffy clouds in the pond. Their beauty couldn’t distract me from the concern weighing my mother’s heart. My little girl had a significant medical challenge that wouldn’t be solved with a hospital stay. I ached watching her in the ICU. She was too sick to comprehend how a diagnosis had changed her life.
God, I know you’re there, but I can’t see You. I’m exhausted- physically, mentally, emotionally. Even spiritually, I’m spent.
The heron flew overhead, lifting the corners of my mouth into a sad smile. God’s creation declared His presence.
In the heat of a moment, my present circumstances may distract my attention, but at the end of the day what is paramount still rings true: God loves me. And, He’s still in control.
My mishaps, mis-steps, and mistakes can’t knock Him off His throne. And, I can’t possibly do anything to erase His goodness.
Even when life throws me it’s worst: a job loss, a personal cancer diagnosis, a child in the ICU; God is still good. He will always carry His children through. In my own life, He always has. He has never failed me yet! Another career was found. I was healed. My child is alive and thriving.
Maybe you’ve too, had harder moments when life’s challenges overshadowed God’s goodness. Maybe, you’re there right now. May I encourage you, as someone else who’s been there in the trenches of despair?
He really does loves you.
He wants to care for you.
Trust Him.
It’s hard. Even if you aren’t feeling it, take just three minutes and list your blessings. Then give Him your current challenge. If you want to take it back to figure it out on your own, re-surrender it to Him, moment by moment. He can be trusted.
Let His goodness testify. Acts 14:17 reminds us His goodness testifies to Him. When we don’t want theology, we want real life proof, right now- His blessings remind us who He is. It can be hard to have faith in the wait. But let’s ask Him for help with just that.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that Your blessings, Your goodness testifies You are God. Forgive me for getting caught up in my own world. Help me see Your blessings. Let my heart praise You regardless of my circumstances and may I learn to surrender to You. Supply me faith in the wait. Thank You for Your goodness, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
