2 This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection Psalm 91:2-4 (NLT)
If you have ever had a serious medical diagnosis, you know that anguishing angst which grips your heart, refusing to release your mind to peaceful slumber.
When I was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, fear insisted on becoming a constant companion. I had to learn to fight fear with faith.
I learned do practice good health: eat right, exercise, de-stress, and sleep, and then surrender it all to God. Simple formula, but not simply done!
In Scripture, we are told we do not need to fear disease.
In Matthew 10:28, we are told not to fear the one who can harm the body but not the soul, rather to fear the one who can destroy both the body and the soul.
Yet, when our bodies are not working properly, both our physical limitations and our mortality are suddenly scrutinized through a magnifying glass. And fear breeds faster than bacteria in a steamy sauna!
“His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”
I learned to fight fear as I labored through five month of chemotherapy, two months of radiation treatments, an entire year of IV therapy and recovered from four surgeries.
And with less than a 10% chance of surviving five years, I am here, twelve years later, cancer-free!
No matter what challenges we endure, God is greater. His promises are our defense. When we claim His promises we are effectively disarming the enemy.
And, who says the enemy has the right to bear arms?
Will you join me in reminding us that no disease should wield power of fear over us? That God is greater and you and I need to focus on that truth. God’s faithful promises are our protection. We need to take the precautions health professionals instruct, and then trust God has us.
Because, He truly does.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your promises, Your protection, and Your provision. You are faithful. Please remind me of that as I travel through challenges I would not author. You hold me. You have me. You love me more than I know. Help me put my trust in You. Help me not fear. Thank You for Your promises, thank You for your protection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
