Thumb hovering over the icon, I paused. I was fearful of opening this Pandora’s box of social media. With so many differences of opinion, the messages got messy, even mean.
But God’s message is clear: love one another.
But how?
I Corinthians 13 details the how of loving one another well:
Be patient.
Be kind.
Don’t be boastful,
Conceited,
Or act improperly.
Don’t be selfish.
Don’t provoke.
Don’t keep a record of wrongs.
Love rejoices in the truth.
Love bears all things.
Believes all things,
Hopes all things,
Endures all things.
The final verse encourages us to pursue and persevere in our actions of love because love never dies.
I Corinthians 13:4-7 details God’s love. And as Christians, Christ-followers, we are to mirror His love.
We are to whisper His love in conversations.
We are to demonstrate His love through our deeds.
We are to sign His love in our social media posts, our replies, and even our emoji’s!
Maybe you, like me, wonder, can I really love everyone?
Surely most, but there are difficult people in this world!
I John 4:19 promises us we can love, “because He first loved us.”
Galatians 5:22 reminds us that love is a fruit of the Spirit. As we draw nearer to Him, He draws nearer to us.
As we trust the Holy Spirit to guide us, His fruit will show through us. He will help you and me to love, even to love the difficult people.
Can you imagine how much love we could spread through cyberspace if we followed the 1 Corinthians 13 rules of etiquette in our social media posts?
Let’s strive for just that!
Prayer: Dear Lord, You know how challenging it is to love everyone. Yet, You did it! Help me to grow in Your love, Your Spirit, and Your grace. Thank You for loving me before I even knew You. Help me to love like You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
