5:30 am. I arise and descend down the stairs to begin my morning exercise. If I don’t exercise at that hour, I may never get back to it during the day. Plus, I love beginning my day to the beat of Christian rock music. Propelling my feet into motion, prompting my heart to recall God’s promises and preparing my mind to start the day off with positive thoughts.
My sneakers hits the floor and I grasp my phone, hitting my playlist. Where are my earbuds? I have no idea, and a glance at the time confirms I don’t have time to search. Our beloved puppy rules the roost and will awaken the entire household if she hears my music. Sadly, I begin a silent workout. Well Lord, I can just pray.
I wince as I hear my thoughts. I chastise myself as I run the figure out around our first floor. Prayer is absolutely the most powerful tool we have!
Why do we as Christians often think, when we don’t know what else we can do to help, we can ‘just’ pray?
God Hears us when we pray. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Jeremiah 29:12 reminds us, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”
1 John 5:14 confirms to us, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears.”
We can be confident He hears us and that He will provide. 1 John 5:15 reads, “And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask- we know that we have what we asked of him.”
Job 22:27 assures us, “You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows.”
We are to pray on all occasions, at any time, every time. He wants to hear from us! He wants us to be in constant communication with Him.
Ephesians 6:18 encourages us, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
I Thessalonians 5:17 confirms we are to “pray continually.”
While my feet might need some encouragement from music to start the day, the quiet conversation I had with God that morning proved to be even more effective in starting my heart and mind off right for the day. I was reminded that peace and quiet before the Lord’s feet is a perfect combination in those still moments of darkness before the day begins.
My lost earbuds were a blessing to me that day. They reminded me of an even better way to start the day: pray!
