Have you ever called out to God because you’re quite at the end of yourself? Desperate for intervention, instruction, and altruistic intention, I too call out to our Heavenly Father.
I shared in last week’s post that 2016 was a very difficult year for me personally. I love Psalm 51 verses 10-12.
“Create a pure heart in me, O God.”
A heart that wants to follow only Your lead. No matter where You might lead me.
“And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Reignite my passionate desire to follow You and Your ways faithfully.
“Do not cast me from your presence”
As I might well deserve!
“or take Your Holy Spirit from me.”
Because I feel I’m beyond hope…
“Restore to me, the joy of your salvation”
Although my circumstances may not be joyful, When I focus on Your salvation I am joy-filled.
“And grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.”
Work in me a perseverance through Your Holy Spirit so that I never give up or give in. I am never completely down or out.
David, the attributed author of this Psalm, writes another message between these few lines. He’s praying to God requesting assistance. David requests with a certainty that God can and will provide. David clearly lays his honest need before God, fully expecting Him to meet it. He didn’t request God to make it easy and take away the challenge; he simply asked God to provide what he needed in order to come out of his situation victoriously for God.
In the midst of the New Year and the natural anticipation that positive events will happen this year, what is your prayer? That 2017 be a healthy, prosperous year? (Nothing wrong with that!)
Or, do you fashion your communication with God after David’s example?
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.”
