“This kindness is greater than that which you have shown earlier: You have not run after the younger men, rich or poor.” Ruth 3:10b
Read Ruth 3:10-13 “The Lord bless you, my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. 11 And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character. 12 Although it is true that I am a guardian-redeemer of our family, there is another who is more closely related than I. 13 Stay here for the night, and in the morning if he wants to do his duty as your guardian-redeemer, good; let him redeem you. But if he is not willing, as surely as the Lord lives I will do it. Lie here until morning.”
Boaz made some interesting statements about Ruth’s character:
* She did not run after younger men, regardless of financial status. She was operating within God’s laws. Her husband owned land, which had been passed down through the original twelve tribes. The land needed to stay within that tribe, that family.
* He mentions, as a compliment, her reputation as a woman of nobel character. He was also reassuring her, she is safe that night staying at his feet.
* He considers it quite an honor she asked him. She has always treated him respectfully, yet he is amazed, and excited at the prospect of marrying her.
To many, Ruth’s situation may appear desperate. Yet, Ruth walked in obedience with her Lord. And Boaz saw the lovely potential for a life partner in this woman who obeyed her God.
