Do you think of yourself as a vessel? Did you know that as Christ’s followers, we are vessels of His love?
When we accept Christ, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells in us. We are to care for our bodies and adorn them to reflect God. We are also to honor God with our bodies. (1 Cor. 6:19-20) Not just the appearance, but what we do, what we say, and even what we think. We are not only called to reflect God. We are called to be a vessel of God’s love. A vessel that pours out the love The Holy Spirit poured into us. (Romans 5:5)
We can pour out God’s love onto others. You and I both know others who do just that! The Holy Spirit can speak through us as He did throughout people in history.
But we can stop Him, and we may not even realize it!
How can we prepare to be used as a vessel and be filled with, and ready to pour out, God’s love?
A. Keep in mind it’s not we who decide to be used, it’s God who chooses to use us.
B. In order to pick up on this, we each need to build faith, a personal relationship with God. To do this:
know Scripture,
pray to Him,
and listen to Him.
C. Learn to yield to Him. It’s not all about me. Let’s challenge ourselves to allow God to write the story. It will be far better than you or I could ever author.
Yielding to God and asking Him to use us as vessels requires stepping out of our comfort zones. Let’s ask Him for help with just that.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I was bought at a price. You pour out Your love in me and to others through me. Please help me yield to the Holy Spirit. Use me as Your vessel. Stretch me, help me step out in faith from my comfort zone, trusting in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
