“But those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. The will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
The idea of burnout is highly referenced in American culture. We have burnout at work, burnout at school, and burnout in ministry. We get bored with the same exercise routine, the same foods, and the same date night activities.
How have you dealt with spiritual burnout? If you are an avid reader, a plethora of books, bible studies and of course, the Bible itself are all great resources to pull you out of a slump.
Many find listening to Christian music or Christian speakers can renew spiritual vigor.
How should we recharge ourselves spiritually?
By plugging into Jesus!
How can we do that? First, we need to turn off the distractions: the TV, the internet, the phone (and all the text messages), and even the voice inside your head reminding you of all the things you have left to do.
Completely settle yourself so you can focus on Him. Sometimes, that settling takes more than a minute, or even an hour. Pursue it!
Once you are there, practice praising God. Praise Him for who He is, and realize just how humbling it is that He cares so much for you! Thank Him for all your blessings! The more you list, the more thankful you will become.
Those two exercises alone may begin filling you. The more we focus on Him, and the less we focus on ourselves, the more energy and inspiration we will draw.
But do not stop there! Invite Him into your day. Allow Him to remind you how much He loves you. Pay attention to which gifts He has lovingly bestowed onto you, and ask Him how He wants you to use those gifts to glorify Him. He has a plan for your day and for you. And, that plan does not include overwhelming fatigue. Whatever He has called you to do, He will provide all the strength you need to accomplish it. (Philippians 1:6) He will meet all your needs! He will provide the skill, the motivation, and the strength; you need to rely on Him and His timing.
The easiest road to burnout is self-reliance. We are all human; we each have limitations physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Relying on God requires faith and patience. By acting in obedience to His leading, you can be sure your faith will grow. And, that growth will serve to recharge you.

Love the reminder about the stumbling block of self-reliance. Oh how we get in the way of what God can powerfully do for His glory. Let the “self” move out of the way. Amen! :o)
I hear you! I get so excited when I remember to pray “God, please move me out of the way and use me as a vessel.” And how often I forget to even utter that prayer. I am so thankful He has not given up on me! Stefanie > Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2013 16:36:00 +0000 > To: Stefanie_L_Brown@hotmail.com >
