Recently, I was blessed to watch God provide for a family member. This unit was putting faith in Him, making the best decisions they knew how, and asking for His guidance with many variables along the way. And, as always, God came through.
As my loved ones marveled at what God did, I encouraged, “write this down in a journal. As I have journeyed through life, I found it helps to recall what God did, especially in the challenging times.”
In Deuteronomy 7:18, Moses charges the Israeiltes with a command, “Do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.”
He’s reminding them to consider God’s history. Not only is He God, but look at the track record! Look at what God did.
Focus on Who God is, and What He has done, not the challenges looming large before them.
That advice serves me well today. As someone who has always loved words, I also like to record things. Events on trips, sweet words said by my children, and what God has done. He is the most creative author around. He pens endings I could never imagine!
When I am stuck, facing another challenge, it’s easy to feel bogged down, wallowing in the circumstances. And that is exactly where the enemy wants us. Focused on the current events facing us, filling our minds and hearts with fear.
But that isn’t what Moses was recommending. Remember well, what the Lord did. Why? Because we can trust Him to see us, to know what we need, and to provide for that need.
We can trust His judgment.
We may not always get the ending we would author. But we can trust His ending will be good. Maybe, even better than what we thought we wanted.
But we need to remember, and remember well. Not only events and His history of coming through on His promises, but also that we need to yield our hearts and will to Him. To trust Him entirely with what is before us. And to wait on Him, not run ahead.
If you are like me, that is all very challenging at times. But He knows us, and He knows how to equip us. And He promises to provide.
Will you join me in prayer, asking for Him to do just that?
Prayer: Dear Lord, You are amazing. Help me focus on You. Help me recall what You did, both in the Bible and in my own life. You keep Your word, Lord. Please help me remember and remember well. When I am struggling, Lord, please help me wait in faith on You. Provide what I need, even when it’s the patience to wait on You. Thank You Lord, for knowing what I need and providing it, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
