“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Romans 8: 16
You awake before your alarm. You get ready for the day, pleasantly surprised to see you have an extra ten minutes over your regular schedule.
You enjoy a perfect cup of coffee and a leisurely commute to work. Your boss compliments your work. A co-worker compliments your outfit.
The afternoon sun shines warmth on your work space. Life is good. God is good!
But what happens when you overslept because the alarm doesn’t sound? You’re late all morning, forgoing breakfast, forgoing fashion, and forgoing compliments.
The day is dreary, matching your mood, and your momentum, (or lack thereof.)
Your boss’ gaze glances over you for that promotion and in your discouragement you discover further disgrace when you see your shoes don’t match each other.
It’s been a bad day. Life is unfavorable and how can we be certain we’ve gained favor with God?
Even when the day is all gloom and doom we are assured in Romans that the Spirit himself testifies to our belonging to God. Even when the dreary days were our own doing. Even when the storms leaves us feeling stranded, we are not spiritually abandoned.
Our salvation is not based on our present feeling.
Don’t let the enemy play with our heads. God is on our side! So much so, the Holy Spirit reassures us, whenever we are listening.
Reflections:
Monday: What shakes my confidence in my faith, my salvation?
Tuesday: How can I claim confidence in the midst of a bad day?
Wednesday: When our confidence fails, often our peace fails. Read Romans 8:6. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. How can we guard against peace failure?
Thursday: Read James 1:17. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” How can I remember to thank God for all the good days?
Friday: Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for constantly loving me and desiring, planning and executing the best for me. Please help me remember feelings are passing but Your love is constant. Remind me of the truth of Your love, that is forever and ever. Thank You, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
