David ran, taking cover in a cave. The cool air did little to calm his racing heart. The warrior men were after him, at the king’s command. The dirt was hard under his feet. As his eyes adjusted to the lack of light, he tried to ascertain what noises he heard outside. Were the enemies drawing closer? Would they enter the cave? Would today be the day he might meet God face to face? It’s after this scenario, David may have penned Psalm 62:5, “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.”
I’ve never literally run for my life with military men in hot pursuit. (Thank goodness!) But I have felt under attack at times. I bet you have too. Days that bleed into weeks where nothing seems to go right, no matter your best efforts. Maybe it’s personal relationships, or work duties, or there’s raging illness nationwide. It feels no matter where you turn, everything is falling apart.
And no matter what you do, it feels you can’t do a thing about it. It’s out from under your control. When you reach the point of being burdened and heavy-laden, that is when, if we haven’t before, we absolutely must call out to God. God is there. He’s holding you in the palm of His hand. He wants to lighten the load.
He is calling us. He is letting us choose how to respond.
How will I respond? How will you respond?
Where have we decided to park our minds? Do I focus on the sorry situation? Or do I focus on who God is? Do I worship in church, regardless of what has happened that week? Have I checked my baggage at the door and allowed myself to come into His presence, praising Him for who He is and trust He is working, somehow, some way, He will work this all out for my good?
He will do as He promised.
When we’re tired, and spent, and wondering if we can go on, He is there, wanting to help us persevere. We only need to ask Him. Will you join me in prayer in asking Him for just that?
Prayer: Dear Lord, I find it challenging to want to stay positive sometimes. I know You know exactly when. I know You know my heart. Please help me, provide all I need to stay focused on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
