With Jeremiah 29:11 fresh in my mind, I rushed into the grocery store. It was a very busy day. I had deadlines to meet, a birthday dinner to prepare and children who wanted mom to snuggle with on the couch.
Be patient, I told myself as I counted the customers at the meat counter.
An older gentleman caught my eye, striking up conversation. Smiling as he retrieved his order, I placed mine while politely listening to a planned visit with his adult daughter.
Awaiting my fish, my eyes followed his hands as they suddenly stopped illustrating his story. Heaving a heavy sigh, he elaborated, “She’s coming to help make decisions.”
I instantly knew what part of God’s plan was for me that hectic morning; share my source of hope when I had faced the very same decisions.
Decisions for treatment.
Decisions to remain positive.
Decisions to trust in God- that my only hope in healing was in Him.
I suddenly didn’t care about my to-do list. This, this, was what needed my full attention right now.
I shared my own story of healing after hearing his new journey. I encouraged him and promised prayer.
I left the store with my groceries and a sense of certainty I was right where I was supposed to be that morning. I pray I encouraged that customer. On my drive home, I thanked God for reminding me of His faithfulness to me. That He had healed me. And, He could still use me.
I recalled what He had done. And treasured He showed me He’s still working, drawing me closer to Him. Growing my faith.
He was prospering me just as Jeremiah 29:11 promises- He was prospering me by building my faith.
Because true success is being as close to God as possible. And that requires relationship and faith.
Do you, like me, find that verse running through your mind? Maybe like me, you’ve defined prosperity and success in various ways over time. Oh, to have a faith that moves mountains- to step into His plans for me, my moments, my day.
Wow!
Lord, let it be so.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, How I want to be who You author, be where You want me and to complete the plans You have for me. Please Lord, prosper me by building my faith, drawing me closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
